Here's an extremely hard to find guitar. Gibson has never made the Les Paul Standard right ever since discontinuing it in 1960. The specs were always off, the bodies were hollowed out (cheese holed bodies and chambered bodies). Gibson was never able to reproduce the iconic guitar that we have all come to love. Dave Johnson is one of a few that can do this. This guitar is built to the exact specs of an original 1958-1959 Les Paul standard using light weight Old Growth Mahogany, a maple top with the correct top carve, Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard (DJ has since stopped doing this) and the correct headstock shape, decal and logo as well as the correct nitrocellulose finish and grain filler. The accuracy to detail is impeccable. Look at the control cavity routing holes and you will notice that two different router jigs were used to cut the same angles as Gibson did in the old days. This was to accommodate the same height for the volume and tone pots on the carved top. You will not find this in any Custom Shop Les Paul. This guitar was custom built for a touring musician and has been played and setup extremely well. It sustains really well unplugged and sounds even better plugged in. Other than a professionally done refret, it is all original. The guitar weighs EXACTLY 9.0 lbs on a digital scale, which is very hard to attain unless the mahogany is specifically hand picked. The weight can be lowered even further when the appropriate lightweight nickel stoptail/bridge combination is used.
